About Us

In 1994, while working for a regional food service company David Smith-Cooper and Kate Phelan met and became co-workers and friends.  When the company was bought and merged into a larger one David and Kate were sold along with it. Unsatisfied with the level of customer service that the new, larger company was willing to provide ;David and Kate had a dream:  to own and operate their own company providing great customer service, utilizing fair and respectful employment practices and most importantly, to produce great food from fresh wholesome ingredients.  They formed Scholastic Culinary Services in 1996 with two accounts.  They got married (to each other) in 1998 and began  raising a family.

As our business family has grown our own family has grown along with it.  There are now five Smith-Coopers and two new businesses.  We have been re-launched as The Good Food Family with Scholastic Culinary Services, Pomme Catering and Portable Edibles under our new umbrella.  Our family of employees has grown too, many of them with us since the very beginning,. We are proud of their growth with us and of all the new additions to their own families as well.

We are excited about our new endeavors and invite you totake some time to peruse our new web site and see what we have to offer.

Food and Family….isn’t that what it’s all about?
