Scholastic Culinary Services, founded by Kate Phelan and David Smith-Cooper in 1996, was designed to deliver superb food and service, tailored to the specific needs of our clients in the education sector. Since then, our scope of business has expanded to include business and industry and private events, but our mission has remained the same.
For Kate and David, who were awarded their first contract with Columbia University in 1997, the art of catering to a major academic institution was defined by their education and prior work experience but mostly from growing up in families who loved food where sharing the act of eating together was more than just a meal it was kinship and community. Their skills were honed and refined as they responded to the needs of Columbia's diverse student body and faculty throughout the ensuing years. SCS has proudly been a preferred caterer on Columbia’s campus for 25 years.
In addition to university catering, we provide comprehensive dining programs to much younger clients in some of the most prestigious private schools in the tri-state area. For more than 23 years we have proudly been the vendor to The Dwight school in NYC where we offer chef created individually boxed meals with 3 menu cycles a year reflecting ingredients that are fresh, locally abundant, and current in the marketplace. We ensure with careful oversight that even the youngest student to every faculty member receives a well-balanced, delicious meal each day tailored to the specific dining needs of each one. Additionally, we are in partnership with an on-line system enabling a streamlined process which makes ordering a breeze for all care givers, students, and faculty.
We have grown substantially with these clients and many others over the past two + decades. Our staff in all departments has grown as well. We are proud of the accomplishments of those who have joined us, some staying for as many years as our doors have been open. We are a family whose backgrounds are as diverse as the city of New York.
As part of our growth strategy, we developed several other brands to complement SCS that now fall under our Good Food Family umbrella. Portable Edibles: beautifully curated and freshly prepared boxed meals and Pomme Catering: events for business and industry and private sectors.
With this brand expansion we are better able to serve our clients diverse and specific needs. Additionally, our outreach to the community has allowed us to broaden our menu offerings by supporting local minority owned businesses and contribute to grassroots movements in our community making donations to those in need.
We continue to elevate our level of service as well as extend the diversity in our menus in an effort to always evolve with the ever-changing trends in our industry and meet the dietary needs of every client. Our environmentally conscious initiatives help to create a sustainable healthy dining experience supported by a responsible, transparent management platform.
